Wings Over SpringbankText and photography by Divan MullerAfter a noticeable absence from the airshow scene due to Covid restrictions, Wings Over Springbank returned to Alberta on July 23 and 24 to thrill aviation enthusiasts from Calgary and surrounding areas.The North American P-51 Mustang was without a doubt one of the most iconic fighters of the Second World War. This particular example, which belongs to the Erikson Aircraft Collection, was built under licence in Australia in 1944.Another legendary aircraft of the Erikson Aircraft Collection, this time from World War II's Pacific Theatre: the Vought F4U-7 Corsair. This example was built for the French Navy in 1952 and later saw combat several times in the 1950s and '60s.The Canadian Force's CF-18 Demonstration Team's powerful and loud display was a definite highlight of the airshow.With the help of a Short SC.7 Skyvan, the Canadian Armed Forces parachute team, the SkyHawks, put up a tremendous display. This year marks fifty years of SkyHawks performances.The Northern Stars Aerobatic Team presented a stunning flying display.As per tradition, Wings over Springbank was concluded with a graceful and precise Canadian Forces Snowbirds formation display.
