In this edition of Aviation News Journal, we have quite a variety of content. Be sure to read the conclusion of our overview of Ukrainian Armed Forces, as well as the conclusion of Aviation Insurance 102: Assessing Your Own Risk, which focusses on aircraft owners and operators. Our Dutch friends at Tristar Aviation have provided excellent photography of Canada's participation at the recently held Exercise Frisian Flag.
Regular readers of ANJ are familiar with the well-written articles of Michael Wilton of Flight Simple Aircraft Sales. Sadly, this edition's Aircraft Ownership feature will the last of his articles we'll be able to enjoy, as he tragically died on April 22. His family placed the following message on his company website, “Michael James Wilton left us far too soon. He was larger than life, with a great sense of fun, a booming laugh and a generous heart. Much-loved by family and friends, Mike was the centre of every party. Born in Swift Current, Sask., he moved to Winnipeg, Man. for Grade 10, attended Kevin High School and was quickly and enthusiastically drafted to the school’s football team. He earned a petroleum engineering degree at SAIT and enjoyed a successful career in the oil industry in Lloydminster and Calgary — earning a spot on the BP cleanup team in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010 — before launching his own business, Flight Simple Aircraft Sales. The proud dad of twins Thomas James Wilton and William Robert Wilton (the “junior sales associates”), Mike was a pilot, an entrepreneur, and an adventurer who never turned down the chance to have fun, or lend a helping hand.” The message included that a celebration of his life would be held at The Hangar Flight Museum in Calgary on June 3.
