Preparing for Italy’s future Light Utility Helicopter
All the way down South in Italy, Calabria occupies the ‘toe’ of the country’s boot-shaped peninsula. It is a sun-baked region of rugged mountains, old-fashioned villages and dramatic coastline. Since October 1996, the region has been home to the 2° Reggimento Aviazione dell’Esercito ‘Sirio’ (2nd Aviation Regiment), which is based at the international airport of Lamezia Terme.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Airbus A300's first flight. The airliner was developed in the 1960s by a consortium of European companies, which included Aerospatiale, Deutsche Airbus, British Aerospace, Casa and Fokker-VFV.

The first Central Coast AirFest was held in 2018, and was supposed to be the start of a yearly tradition. Then, in 2019, the show was held again, but the COVID-19 pandemic put a spanner in the works. However, after two years of absence, the third edition was held in October this year in the Californian city of Santa Maria.

Remembering the Pioneers: Virginius Clark
In 1922, Clark developed the ‘Clark Y’ aerofoil profile, which was the result of substantial mathematical research to design the ideal cross-sectional shape of a wing. Early aircraft designers found that the ‘Clark Y’ aerofoil worked well for their designs. As a result, the ‘Clark Y’ aerofoil was incorporated into dozens of aircraft designs.
